Photos from The Phillips Collection After 5 exhibition: Sensory Remix: A Video-Art Collage

On Thursday I was given the opportunity to assist my friends Robin Bell, Videokillers, and Dissident Display with the setup of their VJ / DJ exhibition at The Phillips Collection After 5 exhibition: “Sensory Remix: A Video-Art Collage.”

Below are some of the photographs I took of the evening:

The event took place on the upper floor of the converted carriage house behind The Phillips Collection in their Center for the Study of Modern Art.

Since the theme of the current exhibition was “Paint Made Flesh,” the event featured two models with varying degrees of paint on their flesh. While I was outside, I took two successive photographs of the beautiful model Laura Reading posing behind an evergreen tree. I decided to splice them together to make an animated gif out of the photographs.

Thankfully nothing was spilled…..

This is a cut out of a photograph I took of the equipment used for the event.
I got a little carried away in Photoshop

After Robin had finished his set, he came up to me and said “Here you go, your turn to have fun,” and for the next 15 minutes or so I VJed a video loop that was made by Dissident Display which shows the application of makeup on a couple models. Local nightlife photographer Fitsum Belay was present and took the following three photographs:

After the show a few of us went out to eat at Haydee’s in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. When we arrived we found that one of Time Magazine’s Top 10 Guerrilla Artists in the world was eating there. I chuckled at the notion that we came from America’s first museum of modern art and were greeted by one of Washington, DC’s best known modern artists. The photo below was taken while I was waiting for the food to arrive.

All in all, it was quite a fun event. I look forward to attending the next one. If you would like to see more photographs of the event, check out The Phillips Collection photographs on Flickr.
