Baltimore Lenz #3
|| 6/9/2005 || 9:09 pm || Comments Off on Baltimore Lenz #3 || ||

Wow. The artifacts left in the center make this one of the most beautiful renderings yet. It almost looks like a snowflake has appeared inside of the rendering. The time which the original USGS aerial photograph was taken (probably around 3pm) makes the rendering interesting because you can see a boat speeding toward the inner harbor on a cloudless day.

I gave my last rendering, Georgetown Lenz #2, a secondary name, “circle of life,” and I’m giving this one the name, “the inner innner harbor.” It’s partly a joke on the Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and partly a more personal dimension, of your own inner mind, where one harbors the thoughts of life.

Baltimore Lenz #2

This rendering was made for a client so it doesn’t have my normal tag on it. It uses the Baltimore Inner Harbor as the focal point which I think the client will appreciate. The next rendering will definitely be either “Baltimore Quilt” or “Baltimore Lenz #3,” the latter will get the same reflection treatment that DC Lenz #4 got. I can’t wait to see how the inner harbor looks reflected! Look at the first Baltimore Lenz….can you imagine what it will look like with 2X more reflection? I am visualizing it right now :)

Baltimore Lenz

Man this weekend was nothing but Baltimore. I should have gone to my friend’s house party on Friday night in Baltimore….oh well…no regrets I made 4 renderings this weekend. I still need to sign my newest DC rendering which finished up this morning. Its just sitting in photoshop right now at home waiting to be “signed.” I’ll put it on-line tonight. In December I snagged the USGS hi-res aerial photograph of the southern half of the National Mall and cropped the image so that the Washington Monument is reflected in the center. The finished rendering looks really nice, and when I zoom into the Monument there is no degradation in visual quality. It will definitely go on the wall next to DC Lenz #2. However, the printing queue is backed up about 20 prints right now….grrr..

Star of Baltimore

So I found out after looking very closely at the embedded signature I added to the source imagery of Baltimore, and after two renderings, I realized that I spelled my name wrong! NIKOLLAS SCHILLER… I have subsequently deleted and rerendered the scenes. I think I might keep the “Abstract Baltimore” the way it is with the mispelling, because afterall, it’s supposed to be Abstract. In other news, on saturday I framed two more of my renderings, and I must say they look wonderful on the wall!

Abstract Baltimore
|| 3/19/2005 || 4:31 pm || Comments Off on Abstract Baltimore || ||

Pretty Abstract! I still feel that it looks like a gas mask!

This rendering and the next (Baltimore Lenz) both contain a subtle change that makes them different from all of the other renderings. I decided to create a watermark of my “signed” name within the satellite imagery. So when you are looking at the print up close, you can see that I have embedded my signature. Call it visual meta-tagging.

I am debating on whether I should continue this practice or not. In doing so, I can theoretically remove the banner with my “signed” name that every image has and just render the images in 3:2 and save the step of post processing the rendering. Yet, the visual meta-tag is only visible when printed out an not on my standard web size of 800 X 1200. For now I just use both styles.

Baltimore World Trade Center…
|| 3/13/2005 || 5:56 pm || Comments Off on Baltimore World Trade Center… || ||

I downloaded an aerial photograph of the entire downtown Baltimore area. I noticed that the Baltimore World Trade Center showed up perfectly geographically aligned in the orthorectified image (as in I didn’t rotate it). I cut out the building, reflected it:

I ended up making my first piece of Geospatial Art using only photoshop. I signed this one “created” rather than “rendered” to lexically differenciate the two methods of synthesizing the imagery. I think I might end up using the image below as a background for the next Baltimore rendering. I thinking of going “Abstract“.
