Terra Ferma means “firm land” or “solid ground” and has been used to describe the conquest of new lands since antiquity.
Terra Fermi is the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Reactor Quilt mapped on to the surface of the earth.
A fitting name for a dangerously beautiful new world.

The Enrico Fermi Nuclear Generating Station (I prefer reactor) was indirectly mentioned in Jenna Johnson’s Washington Post article on Sunday July 22nd, “Google’s View of D.C. Melds New and Sharp, Old and Fuzzy”
Schiller said he thinks Google should just use the 2002 map for the small spots the government has censored rather than the whole downtown area.
And he said he’s puzzled that any level of blurriness is needed by anyone, even the government, especially because he recently took a detailed tour of a nuclear reactor south of Detroit via Google Earth.
“Where is the concept of national security in this?” he asked.
The process I employed to make this geographic tessellation is as follows:
1 ) I took the center 2,500 x 2,500 pixels from the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Reactor Quilt.
2 ) I created a new document that was 10,000 x 7,500 pixels in size
2.1 ) The width = 10,000 / 2,500 = 4 tiles
2.2 ) The height = 7,500 /2,500 = 3 tile
2.3 ) 4 * 3 = 12 tiles
3 ) I pasted 12 tiles into the new document
4 ) I added my mult-directional signature.
5 ) Saved the file
6 ) Opened up Adams Morgan Earth’s KMZ file
7 ) Change the image to the newly saved file
8 ) Renamed the layer and modified the citation
9 ) Saved the new KMZ file
Like the 4-tiled polar coordinate maps I made earlier this year, this map follows suit.

Release Notes:
1) Please be patient! The tessellation is 14 megabytes and will take a moment to download and a moment to load into Google Earth
2) The size of the tessellation might slow down some older computers which might have problems loading a large file
3) The zoom-in capabilities are limited because the file does not contain close-up details
4) It looks best when every other layer has been turned off
5) Read number one again
