Do X in Dildo [a historical linguistic anamoly from 1932]

Present day english could describe “Do X in Dildo” as some odd porno rave, but according to page 181 of Vikings to U-Boats: The German Experience in Newfoundland and Labrador By Gerhard P. Bassler, Do X in Dildo has a completely different meaning:

I thought this was too cute to pass up. I wonder how I could adapt this for my bicycle?

Globe Graffiti
|| 3/11/2008 || 9:19 am || Comments Off on Globe Graffiti || ||

Back in September of 2006, my friend Alex let me borrow his antique globe to use as a prop in my outdoor exhibition “North, South, East, Westminster.” I felt it made an excellent addition to the installation and was very thankful for being allowed to use the globe. I returned it unscratched and without any new additions.

Fast forward a year and half. Alex lets a street artist and good friend of mine named DECOY borrow the globe. While she was out of her apartment one day, her friend and fellow street artist, DEBT decided to “appreciate” the globe with some his artistic stylings. Click on the pictures below to be taken to her blog entry.

Friends Don’t Let Friends Drink Starbucks

Original PSA

Today on one of my favorite DC blogs there was a posting about the new pedestrian safety ads (above) that are now being featured on Metro buses and trains. Before I began reading the comments, I was thinking that this graphic would be fun to photoshop. Specifically, I was interested in making fun of the fact that person being hit had been drinking what looks to be a Starbucks coffee. Using the old PSA message “friends don’t let friends drive drunk,” combined with an unfortunate crash scene and a phrase on old pen of mine from an independent coffeeshop in Saint Louis, Missouri, I was able to subvert the message.

If I wanted to spend more time on this graphic, I would have downloaded the exact same font that was used in the original flyer, but I am happy with the ironic result of 25 minutes of image editing.

Screen grab of Google Map’s directions

Technically it’s the directions from Héré to Théré, but lets just forget about the four accent égues as they are lost in translation. —via Haha.nu

Russell Weekes Map of the World (inverted)
|| 1/4/2008 || 12:27 pm || Comments Off on Russell Weekes Map of the World (inverted) || ||

A couple weeks ago I found this map and laughed. The “dude” looks just like this person. The color in the map above has been inverted and I added a citation and a linkback to the original. The animated version of the map, “If I Ruled The World” is quite funny as well.

screen grab links to google map

Lemme tell you, its one erect route. So someone recently sent me with a link to some of their GPS maps on Bicycling.com. I decided to look through their maps and upon further exploration, I stumbled on the map above. I looked at it and smiled. The author is “Jackonabike” and when you view the map with the “Points of Interest” turned on, the cameras look like little nodules [use your imagination].

It’s even more funny when you think that earlier this month I found 109 brothels just north of the shaft.

Meet SloMo the Statehood Snail
|| 6/11/2006 || 10:44 am || Comments Off on Meet SloMo the Statehood Snail || ||

I am really happy with how this turned out. I took the DC outline and placed it over the Photoshop preset shape of a snail. The shelless snail now carries the weight of city so great they won’t let it be a state. I added my synthetic signature of ®’s as the Statehood Snails’ eyes. I’ve printed up about 15 these little buggers. When I put them up I want to use some chalk to show the snail’s trail up to the location (lampost) it stopped at. This will add a cute dimension to SloMo’s style.
