Answering a question from September

Back in September I answered the reporter’s question about what I was going to do next rather vaguely. I didn’t want to be the person who mentioned the film first….
And Hilton has been busy editing “Babylon Central,” which he describes as “a low-budget feature shot in high definition so it looks good.” Shot locally with a mostly amateur cast, “it’s very much about D.C.: cross-cultural threads, music threads, conspiratorial political threads, a love story. There’s a lot going on in a 90-minute movie,” says Hilton, who hopes to have a rough cut in the next month. Thievery may release it itself, or it may find a distributor. Hilton insists: “I don’t have any delusions of grandeur. I’ve never made a movie before.”

I added to the Render Radio a 6 minute clip of DJ Bailey’s set at the Rudebwoy Shuffle recorded earlier this summer. Click PLAY to listen to the clip! It’s two songs mixed together. HOTT! This mp3 was played quite a few times this weekend. Sometimes music can be therapeutic ya know? If the Render Radio flash animation doesn’t show up, click here to listen :)
I also finally got around to adding my entry about the 911 “Freedom Walk” where Angela & I muckraked Donald Rumseld. Read it here.
Warning Shots Video

My favorite local producers Thievery Corporation have just released the video for “Warning Shots” off of their new album “The Cosmic Game“. The video was actually filmed across the street from my office in front of the “House of the Temple,” otherwise known as the massive Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Temple on 16th St. The video premiered on MTV2 on Sunday night, and I sincerely hope it gets more airtime because the “The Cosmic Game” CD is one of their best yet. One can listen to their entire CD and not really get a feel for its underlying subversive nature. For instance, I got a bootleg copy of “Amerimakka,” and I loved it from the get-go, but it wasn’t until I obtained the CD and read over the lyrics did I realize 1) the name of the tune 2) what all the lyrics meant 3) how much I liked it after finding out about 1 & 2. Read over the lyrics from “Warning Shots” and then watch the video.
They try their best just to mash up the resistance
Warning shots and sirens from a distance
Riot gear and barricade for an instance
And the words from mi mouth, mi nuh response
Hollywood sending signals of destruction
Stereotype the ghetto youths as the bad man
Overcome the rough times and we grow strong
Step up in a life, now them want to shake we hand
We are eternal, made of the creator
Won’t fall to the soul-less devastators
Divide and conquer, and try to separate us
Up to this day, them still try fi rape us
(If you want to listen to “Warning Shots” but do not want to watch the video, click play on the “Render Radio” in the upper right hand corner of your screen. I’ve had a copy of “Warning Shots” on my website since I picked up the CD.)
the true cost paradigm

I like the way the satellite image reflected. Its almost like a remotely sensed inkblot! The texture in the torus is also one of the coolest yet. Version 2.0 on its way…
I opted to not go to Club 5 tonight, but I listened to a live drum & bass set from from Chicago on Bassdrive instead. Not quite Baron |shrug| The True Cost to me was about $30 ( ten for admission, five for cigarettes, and fifteen for drinks ) But there is the True Cost of not seeing my friends, is that worth $30 +/- I’ll never know.
In this month’s issue of Adbusters there is an interesting article titled “Meet The Neocops.” The article references the DC based Social Investment Forum. Its a pretty telling that in professionally managed portfolio, socially responsible investing out performed “irresponsible” investing by 66%. (Does that sound right?) I checked Adbusters website and found their new “campaign” – its all about true cost economics. Makes sense when the issue is titled “No Future,” why not sell readers that green investments are the way to say with your money “Yes Future” I’m sold. No if I only had the start up capital. In the mean time I’ll calculate my ecological footprint.
Maybe this blog should be called “The Daily Render”
“Mental Masturbation” is a bit over the top, oh well.
I’ll keep on with keystrokes.
