After taking a nearly 6 year break, I bought an old computer that ran Mac OS X 10.6, installed the old software, and now resuming making my renderings. This is my first rendering of the fine state of Connecticut.

I’m not a fan nuclear power. While it happens to be one of the cheapest fuel that is known to man, its also the most deadly. Years ago I made my first map of a U.S. nuclear reactor, Enrico Fermi Nuclear Reactor Quilt, and then followed it up with “Terra Fermi,” an interactive Google Earth Globe, to highlight this intrinsic danger. Given the ease in which the imagery of nuclear power plants can be obtained, I intend to make more maps of nuclear reactors to highlight their fragile existence.

Montpelier Quilt

About four years ago I sent a request to the State of Vermont asking for color imagery of downtown Montpelier. At that time, Vermont was one of the last states that I had not made a map of and I was eager to complete the State Capitol project. To my surprise, they sent me a DVD of the imagery around Montpelier, but sadly the DVD-Rom was a bad burn, and I was never able to extract the imagery and this map, and the entire project, was put on hold.
According to the meta-data supplied with the imagery, it appears that this aerial photography was taken by Aero-Metric, Inc. on April 24th, 2009 and released to the public in October of 2009. This means I’m over a year late in making this map!

Georgetown Quilt – East
|| 9/13/2010 || 8:59 pm || + Render A Comment || ||
Georgetown Quilt – East / Center / West are 3 new limited edition maps that are being created for the upcoming exhibition at The Old Print Gallery. Each individual map is composed of a section of Georgetown stretching between Rock Creek Park (East) to the area around The Old Print Gallery (Center) to the Key Bridge (West). Georgetown Quilt – Center is composed of what I call an Octagon Quilt Projection map because there are 8 lines of symmetry that radiate from the center of the map. The East & West maps, which will flank the Center, were created using the Hexagon Quilt Projection, which creates 6 lines of symmetry radiating from the center.

Based off of one sample of the Gershman Y Quilt #2, I developed a series of 8 different tessellations, and I selected the four maps that were the most visually appealing. This map will be printed out for my upcoming exhibition in Philadelphia. This map concludes this series. I’m looking forward to seeing how they all look printed out.
