Over the summer I created my first YouTube mash-up “Scratch Slavery<\/a>,” which allows you to create a beat track to congressional hearing about slavery being used in the construction the American embassy in Baghdad.<\/p>\n

Today I am posting something a little different- French Youtube videos<\/i>.

\nI am not a much of a French speaker, but an appreciative listener– I took a year of French in high school and I’ve been to Paris twice and Lyon once, so I grasp about 1% of the words. But culture is not just based language (tell that to iTunes though). Some of my favorite films<\/a> are in French. Heck there was also that time when I was in that Agence France Presse story<\/a> where my name was mispelled<\/a> (and subsequently removed from the english language syndication).<\/p>\n

French Rap has always had a place in my heart, from the gansta rap of Supr\u00c3\u00aame NTM<\/a> (“Nique” being an aphesis of the verb “forniquer”, “to fornicate” meaning N<\/b>ique T<\/b>a M<\/b>\u00c3\u00a8re<\/i> :: Fuck Your Mother<\/i>) to the smooth MC Solaar<\/a>, I can say that I’ve been a fan for years. Lately I’ve been enjoying Teki Latex<\/a> from the group TTC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first video is “Confessions Nocturnes” by Diam’s Feat Vitaa. Diam’s<\/a> is a 27-year-old female rapper from the island of Cyprus<\/a> (official flag has a map on it<\/a>)<\/i> who I think can rhyme quite well. Vitaa<\/a> is a French R&B singer signed to Motown France<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The parody is by Michael Youn<\/a> and he’s one funny comedien that can rap. His Fatal Bazooka<\/a> character reminds me of Ali-G on da mic, but better. Like Sacha Baron Cohen’s other characters, his newest video<\/a>, “Parle \u00c3\u00a0 ma main<\/i> :: Talk to the hand<\/i>” with French rapper Yella<\/a>, has him cross dressing as his younger sister, Christelle Bazooka. F.B.I. = False Good Idea<\/i><\/p>\n

Unlike the previous mash-up, these two videos don’t synch very well and the sound levels are off by a large degree. But I found them enjoyable to watch & listen to. The trick to watching them at the same time is to use the volume buttons– mute one, watch the other, reverse, chuckle…. <\/p>\n
