Last night I decided to use one of my favorite satellite images from the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/earthasart.gsfc.nasa.gov\/guinea.html\"target=_blank>Earth as Art<\/a>&#8221; collection.  The colorful original satellite image is of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cia.gov\/cia\/publications\/factbook\/geos\/pu.html\"target=_blank>Guinea-Bissau<\/a>, a small country in West Africa, and the colors represent water and different types of vegetation.  I decided to use the ol&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikolasschiller.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/category\/renderings\/quilt\/\"target=_blank>Quilt<\/a> template to make a somewhat intricate design that has two central axises of symmetry.  I genuinely like this rendering and will most likely have it printed shortly.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhat related&#8230; When I was setting up the scene to be rendered I realized that I could easily make one of these renderings surpass the gigapixel barrier that I&#8217;ve recently <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/technology\/4022149.stm\"target=_blank>read<\/a> about, but I realized that my computer cannot process that much information.
