I wrote this Monday night and performed it on Tuesday night at a packed Busboys & Poets<\/a> for an Operation Ceasefire<\/a> benefit. Definitely an awesome experience :-) I really liked that place- a lot, although its kinda weird witnessing gentrification before me. Regardless, the progressive bookstore, theater, cheap food, and free Wi-Fi makes it a tryst to not miss. <\/p>\n

I would describe this poem as ecopoetry :-)
\n<\/p>\n

\nIts getting hotter in here,
\nThe climate is changing, I know this to be true.
\nIts that kinda heat that evaporates the beads of morning dew
\nIts that kinda heat which allows AC to cool the select few.
\nIts that kinda heat that keeps the truth out of view,<\/p>\n

Yet this change is not altogether new,
\nBut its time to ponder what is causing the sky to change its hue.
\nIts time to ask what you going to do?<\/p>\n

To use non-scientific parlance,
\nthe world’s climate is severely out of balance.
\nMother Nature is pissed and is giving us a mean glance,
\nAnd her demeanor is starting to take an aggressive b-boy stance,<\/p>\n

To remedy this it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not going to take some amazing scientific advance,
\nRather, it boils down to you snapping out of this not-my-problem trance.<\/p>\n

The word I want you to remember is variability.
\nIn your mind, make it synonymous with climatic agility.<\/p>\n

Variability is means nothing is constant.
\nThe variables are not X nor Y nor Phi, but U, I, and delta<\/p>\n

The x-bar variation will not be the norm unless we undertake
\ncomprehensive, systemic, omega reform.<\/p>\n

Alas, technology is not going to save us,
\nit was actually technology that brought us to this mess,
\nand I must stress,<\/p>\n

That we are living in an ecological double bind
\nand the severity will blow your mind. <\/p>\n

We are chopping down more trees that can be regrown,
\nWhile we are also putting more CO2 into our atmosphere.
\nAnd in due time the results will be a few polluted shades from crystal
\nclear.<\/p>\n

And without a way for the levels of C02 to be reduced,
\nClimatic variability is here to roost.<\/p>\n

For the last 400,000 years the ambient CO2 levels had remained same,
\nAbout 300 parts per million would be the name,
\nThe Industrial Revolution is the climate changing historical event to blame.
\nIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an ongoing revolution that continues play its polluted game,<\/p>\n

Hello heinous hurricanes and typical typhoons,
\nHello category 5 tornadoes and torrential rain,
\nHello record high temperatures, disastrous droughts,<\/p>\n

The extremes are beginning to become the way of life.
\nThis is going to lead to more pestilence, famine, and strife.<\/p>\n

I’m sad to say that in less that 200 years,
\nthe damage has already been already done,<\/p>\n

and now my friends we get to revel in this climate change fun.
\nMother Earth has won.<\/p>\n

\nYet its a change beginning in around 1850 that is not altogether new,
\nIts time to stop what is causing the sky to change its hue.
