I’ve decided to venture over the Potomac River and make a few maps of the Washington, DC hinterland. Up next will be Rosslyn and the CIA building.

I don’t know why I decided to make maps of the Pentagon & CIA, but I figured why not just focus on a couple buildings? Most of my maps are comprised of specific areas instead of specific buildings, so in some respects, while they are not technically different, these two maps are a slight departure from the norm.

I won a Young Artists Program Award!

In October I submitted a proposal to the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities for $2470 to print out & frame 8 maps that represent one location in the 8 Wards of DC. Today I received the official word from the DCCAH that my proposal was accepted!!

From the Washington Map Society…

On Friday May 5, 2006, the WMS Annual Dinner will be held at the U.S. Capitol (tentative). Our guest speaker is the Honorable Anthony A. Williams, Mayor, The City of Washington DC (invited). Mayor Williams at one time in his career was a map collector. Details will be provided at coming meetings, by mailed invitation and on the Society’s Website.

Hmmmmmm……….,,,,,,,mmmmm

I bet he’d like one of my maps :)

So I sat behind him on Thursday, September 14th, 2006 for the Norton Davis Bill hearing and I asked him about his past cartographic activities. He said he sucked, “No one bought any.” Call that advice from the mayor- don’t be a map dealer.

Battle of the Interactive Inaugural Maps

So cartoonist Mark Fiore published his humorous Interactive Inaugural Map on January 20th. After looking at it and laughing, I couldn’t help to wonder if he used my map as some sort of basis for his, so I decided to E-mail him and ask. This is his reply :-)

Thanks, glad you liked my map! Yes, yours kept coming up when I was researching the parade route & getting the DC map together– great work, I’m glad you put that together.
