“Keep 2007 Weird” is the secondary title given to my first two maps of 2007. It’s play on Austin’s “Keep Austin Weird” slogan that I felt was somewhat relevant to my feelings toward what I predict to be a very interesting year ahead. While no one has asked for my 2007 predictions, I’ll give one that relates to the weather, which is actually where the idea behind the secondary naming came from: I think 2007 will feature the weirdest weather patterns in my lifetime.

Like the “Icositetragon of Northwestern Station in Chicago,” I am not including another company’s name for the title of this map. It’s the worst polluter in the world…

I used .65 meter resolution from March 30th, 2003 and released to the public on October 1st, 2004. There was also .3 meter imagery available taken at a newer date, but I chose to use the older imagery because the download size would be smaller. More later….

Park La Brea Quilt #3

Park La Brea (Spanish: La Brea – The tar, after the nearby La Brea Tar Pits) is a sprawling apartment complex in the Miracle Mile District of Los Angeles, California. It encompasses more than 4,000 apartments in both high-rise and garden-style buildings, and sits on 160 acres (0.65 km2) of land with numerous lawns. It’s layout is geometric and lends itself to my map style. This is my third iteration of the series featuring the area around Park La Brea in Los Angeles, California. Its one of my favorites :-)

Park La Brea’s geometric design allows for some excellent manipulations. For the first time in a VERY long time I’ve decided to create not one, but two fractals of a specific location. Number 3 will be up shortly…
