Today is a big day… Lots of things planned!

1) Drop off resumes at some local restaurants & make call backs to some places I sent resumes to the other day. I desperately need to get stable employment arranged- although working for myself is fun, I need to make more connections to ensure stable employment so that my bills get paid. Bills suck.

2) Drop off my printed out geography portfolio at the GWU Geography Department. I spent hours making a professional digital portfolio CD, but it turns out that I should have just printed everything out like the rest of the pack. I hope the printed portfolio’s tardiness is excused. Fingers crossed.

3) Help set up the Conference on Race/Ethnicity and Place. I look forward to meeting some active members of the Association of American Geographers this weekend during the conference. I hope that the Green Festival doesn’t suck out all my time this weekend :-(

4) Go to the volunteers meeting for the Green Festival and find out exactly what “Greening the Festival” is all about. I am so excited about this event! I hope tons of people come out to this event! I need to finalize one of inventions too. I look forward to seeing if it is being sold by some green entrepreneur at the festival.

Last night I redesigned the front page of the Adam4Shadow campaign website. I moved the “top campaign news” to the right panel. I feel it looks better this way because main info on U.S. “Shadow” Representative is at the top of the page now.

I am very excited about the campaign events this weekend. Tomorrow night we are having a Fun*raiser at my house and I am really excited to see who shows up to mingle & schmooze. I also look forward to seeing how people dress up to look like Adam! And on Saturday, we’re celebrating Adam’s 31st birthday by having a block party at the corner of 18th & Columbia. There will be Djs, fire spinners, stump speeches, and belly dancers! Hopefully we can get some people from the Green Festival to come out and party it up! This weekend is panning out to be a lot of fun! I just hope I can balance it all and not overextend myself! We’ll see!

Working the polls was fun. There were only about 100 people who went into the polling place while I was there from 7:45am to 11am. 90% of them were retired folk- some had to be helped into the polling place! It turns out that in the 3 main races the incumbents were dethroned by newcomers. I was annoyed to see Marion Barry win the election in Ward 8. I don’t understand how people can elect someone who was filmed smoking crack. Nonetheless, I find it harrowing that of the 550,000 residents of DC, only about 10% came out to vote. In a town where local party politics is dominated by one party, the primaries are more important than the actual election day. A real democracy cannot survive when only 10% of the populace takes part in the election. Granted November 2nd will be probably have a significantly higher turnout, but the local races will already have been decided!

The renderings are of the Ganges River Delta in India. One is of the satellite image by itself, and the other is a four paneled reflection of the same satellite image. I find it interesting how the randomized torus graphic is more complex in the reflection rendering, but I personally think the other torus looks better

primary & adams morgan day

Tomorrow is the primary elections here in DC. I am scheduled to work a poll in Anacostia in Ward 7. I have never worked a poll before so this should be interesting!

Yesterday was Adams Morgan Day. I had a blast! I arrived at around noon and passed out hundreds of stickers and flyers for the Adam 4 Shadow Campaign and for the DC Statehood Green Party. Midway through the day I manned a DC Statehood Green Party booth and sold buttons and t-shirts, as well as registering voters. In total we registered 16 voters yesterday. What I ended up discovering is that newness to the party can actually be beneficial. Since I don’t know the history of the party well or know any personal issues people have between them my ignorance can used to help others get along better. Hopefully everyone can put away personal issues of the past and concentrate on the issues of the present. Nonetheless, I am excited about working the polls! Since its the primary and DC is predominantly democratic the literature I’m handing it out is specifically designed for November 2nd, yet these voters are the voters who will be voting on November 2nd and giving them information is the best way to get those extra votes needed.

The rendering is of Brussels with an inner lenz (its hard to explain!) and a torus that uses a randomized satellite Brussels image. Up next is the Ganges River delta.

namib desert

This animation shows exactly why I think the whole spherical aspect of the “Lenz Project” is interesting. Albeit very simple, I am still amazed at how beautiful our earth is. Oh yeah, if you ever go to the Namib desert watch out for diamonds in the sand! BTW, deBeers sucks— artificially inflated blood diamonds really show the one you love that you paid too much for that bling! Watch this video for more info.

Next image will be the same graphic as in the animation, but just a hell of a lot larger (10,000 by 7,500 pixels) and should be on-line in about 6 hours.

protestor at the rnc & climate change
|| 9/3/2004 || 1:11 am || Comments Off on protestor at the rnc & climate change || ||

Since I was recording the speech, I also recorded a protestor getting escorted out of the convention during Bush’s speech. There was another person who was escorted out as well, but C-Span did film them. I must give those people props for their deep cover operation, but its unfortunate they didn’t make a bigger ruckus. It would have made my night! Nonetheless, I am pleased to see that the convention is over. Its time for political harball…on two more months.

The next major news item will be the hurricane in Florida. I expect to see footage of the Bush boys helping out people who have had their lives changed dramatically by Nature instead of their misguided policies. Well actually their policies might actually be partly responsible. The Republicans (as well as Democrats) have done little to combat climate change in my lifetime. I mean in all honesty climate change is best defined as merely an increase climatic variability, and due to the unprecedented amount of CO2 in our atmosphere, its happening right the moment. So expect more hurricanes, monsoons, droughts, floods, and tornados. And look for politicians to be on the scene to console families, but don’t expect any policies that will help combat the issue, just a good photo-op for the newspapers (which will not be recycled).

Brussels with Himalayas

This rendering looks really nice. The only problem is that I accidentally rotated the torus 30 degrees, so the image looks slightly off kilter. Up next is the same inner satellite image with a lake for the torus. After that I’m going to photoshop another satellite image to change things up a bit!

Today I sent out faxes to all of the members of the Committee on Government Reform. We are scheduling meetings with congressmen and their staff to discuss Budget Autonomy for the District*. This is my first foray into lobbying but I’m excited about it. I hope the congressmen are receptive and we are able to schedule a lot meetings. If you are reading this, mark your calendars for October 1st so that you can take off work and come & meet up with fellow DC residents at the Capitol Hill South Metro stop at 9am. Its going to be fun. And to steal Move On’s tagline- it will truly be democracy in action.

*B.A.D. Day is October 1st ;-)

Black Lake

Man I rode my bike farther out in VA than I have ever riden before. However, the party I went to was fun! I met the son of the one of the DCStatehood Party founders tonight. He played some nice dub, dancehall & ragga beats at the house party. I hope he drops me an E-mail!

So tomorrow is the big protest day. I hope the corporate media has some decent coverage,,,, My recording of Bill Maher last night, which urged protestors to riot made its way to the front page of the NYC IMC, but I can’t find the posting now! It was up before I left to go out tonight….nonetheless, it was a good recording…. I also uploaded the press conference that the Police Commissioner of NYC gave…It was about the “terrorists” who had no explosives but were arrested…. in my opinion they were arrested just to scare off potential protestors….

Anyways–tomorrow should be very interesting!

Inner Lake

I didn’t end up making version 2.0, but I did try something new and I ended up with a new template. It looks very much like the previous templates, but this new one has a second sphere. But this sphere is a “negative” sphere which subtracts itself from the central sphere, and what this creates is a small sphere within the sphere. You can see the results above, or you can look at these quicktime virtual reality 3D renderings (small, medium, and large). I think this 3D environment allows the viewer to see the depth & size of the renderings! I look forward to making these more often because they are so damned cool. Up next is another rendering using the new template and same torus texture with the Guinea-Bissau satellite image for the inner graphic.

In other news, the protests at the RNC have started. Last night there were 5,000 critical mass riders who took over the streets in NYC to promote a carless culture. There ended up being about 250 arrests and I am downloading an Indymedia video of the arrests. Due to how long it has taken to download this video, it looks like the NYC Indymedia is getting a lot of traffic. I hope other Indymedia websites begin to mirror the videos to ease the server load and allow for a faster transfer of information– after looking at the URL of the video I see that it is being hosted by San Fran’s Indymedia website (cool). I hope they start up “enemy combatant radio” like what was streamed out of San Fran during the protests when the Iraq war started.

I uploaded a good sound byte of Bill Maher urging protestors to riot. Good stuff..

banner drop recap
|| 8/21/2004 || 1:08 am || 4 Comments Rendered || ||

The flag drop went great! We counted how many times people honked, waved, and gave thumbs up, and we decided to go home when hit we 510- it took about an hour and 15 minutes. One of the best parts was that there wasn’t any interference from the police. I can’t wait to do it again!

With the buzz I got from the banner drop, I decided to do a little bit more work for the campaign when I arrived home, so I registered the domain names for www.strikeforstatehood.com and www.strike4statehood.com. These domain names will be used for the promotion of October 1st- Budget Autonomy for the District Day. I am pondering ways in which we can eclipse the activities of last year and make sure there is more national attention given towards DC Statehood. It should be very interesting :-) Now I’m off to Fairfax, Virginia for a friend’s party!

Campaign “street party”
|| 7/30/2004 || 9:40 pm || Comments Off on Campaign “street party” || ||

Adam Eidinger, Michele Tingling-Clemmons, and a bunch of DC Statehood Green Party members had a street party at the Minnesota Ave. Metro Station from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. It was fun.

When I arrived I went to the other side of the Metro station to see what that exit lead out to. It was a long maze which really brought me to the other side of the tracks. I went through a long walkway that took me over a nearby highway. The top of the walkway was caged in so there was no potential for a flag drop. There was a convenience store on the side that was jam packed with people buying lottery tickets. It was Friday afterall. I purchased a few bottles of water for the campaigners. I later came back to the area and put up some campaign flyers. Almost got hit by a car in the process!

For the most part the campaign street party consisted of a few other people and I walking around handing out DC Statehood Green Party flyers and registering people to vote, while Adam and Michelle spoke about DC Democracy. And every once in awhile playing some music- Bob Marley, Outkast, Fugees… This week’s campaigning was more successful than last weeks. It was a captive audience that for the most part enjoyed our presence. I danced with some kids, got hit on by few ladies, and familiarized myself with a part of DC that I have never been before.

However as we turned off the music (Al Green) and began to pack up to head home, a young white Metro Transit Police Officer arrives. He explains to us that what we were doing was illegal. Remember Democracy is illegal in DC. The property of a completely public funded multi-state transit authority is private property. All the way up to the street no less! He took our IDs and checked them. I enjoy handing my Missouri ID out so much- another reason why I am not sure about changing citizenships (from the 20th state to the 51st)- everyone around me has a Maryland, Virginia, or DC licenses and my Missouri ID is good until 2009! Still, the fact that the officer showed up really bothered me. The Metro employee who’s post was at the end of the property did not mind our presence. I even talked with her and asked if she was a registered voter. I sincerely doubt she called for an officer as we were packing up campaign shop. Maybe she was sick of watching kids dancing to “Hey Yeah,” but I doubt that.

having a kegger tomorrow. it should be interesting.

my grandfather is going in to surgery tomorrow morning to remove a tumor. that should be interesting as well.

I really don’t want to have a reason to get drunk this weekend.
