Democratic National Convention 2008 – Photos from Day Two
|| 8/27/2008 || 11:44 pm || Comments Off on Democratic National Convention 2008 – Photos from Day Two || ||

The Iraq Veterans Against the War hosted a free concert at the Denver Coliseum with The Coup, Flobots, and Rage Against the Machine. After the sold out show, about 4,000 people took part in a 4 mile march to downtown Denver to give the presidential candidate Barack Obama Campaign a list of demands regarding the war the in Iraq and the treatment of veterans.

You might have seen Improv Everywhere’s Grand Central Station Freeze-in a few months ago. This Youtube video is from yesterday’s anti-war freeze-in that took place in Washington, DC’s Union Station. For being less than 24 hours old, my friend did a great job editing the video.

From Roll Call:

Up-Lifting Message
Nikolas Schiller of the DC Statehood Green Party helps fellow party members lift a large pro-D.C. statehood flag on the Capitol’s West Front following a voting-rights march to the Capitol on Monday. Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and other District officials led supporters from Freedom Plaza to the Capitol in a show of support for a bill that would grant D.C. a vote in the House.

Sensors Spatial Analysis of Tularemia on the National Mall
|| 10/6/2005 || 4:47 am || Comments Off on Sensors Spatial Analysis of Tularemia on the National Mall || ||

An attempt at being funny (cartographic humor) using a cute red-eyed rabbit as an icon of the locations of the sensors that found “rabbit fever.”

The other (below) is a quick & dirty spatial analysis of the area around the protests made using NASA’s World Wind (free), Google Earth (free), and Photoshop. I used the measure tool in Google Earth to measure a mile from the Lincoln Memorial, I used World Wind to acquire the USGS imagery, and Photoshop to draw the circles. The Lincoln Memorial’s circle served as the template for the other two sites.

Solitary Protest Recap
|| 2/4/2003 || 10:07 am || Comments Off on Solitary Protest Recap || ||

I originaly posted this to the DC IMC

a quick recap of my morning protest

At the corner of E st & 20th, as cars came out of the E St tunnel, there is a stop light. As cars waited for the green light, they were greeted by me decked out in a neon orange jumpsuit with a large sign saying “NO BLOOD FOR OIL.” Thousands of cars passed by me from 7am to 9:30am, many honked their horns, some shook their head in disbelief, some said “Thank You,” one lady gave me a granola bar, and most just gave a good thumbs up. It was a solitary protest, but a good one nonetheless. The cliche, “the power of one” holds true and dear to me. Today is the International Day of Action, and I think I was able to turn a few heads and non-violently, silently, and boldly give my message to thousands.
